For Potential Staff

Caliburn Press is not looking for cover artists at this time. Coloring books, photography books, and art books will be considered.  
 
As of the present time (July 10th, 2016), Caliburn Press is seeking to fill the following positions:
 
Payroll Assistant (1 position): The Payroll Assistant will work independently, from home, under limited supervision of the Payroll Lead. The Payroll Assistant will assist the Payroll Lead by pulling reports from distributor websites, assisting in the determination of sums to be paid to authors, editors, illustrators, and company officers, and assisting in the creation and distribution of quarterly payroll statements. Necessary training will be provided. This position is paid a percentage of the company’s quarterly profit; this will be a small sum presently but has an unlimited growth potential based, in small part, on the Payroll Assistant’s accuracy. Longevity bonuses will be paid after 18 months of continuous service with the company.  A successful Payroll Assistant can expect to be offered a junior partnership in the company within 5 years. It is strongly preferred that the Payroll Assistant live in or near the east side of Madison, WI, but this is not mandatory.

Formatting Assistant (1 position): The Formatting Assistant will work independently, from home, under limited supervision of the Quality Manager. The Formatting Assistant will download edited manuscripts from a google drive, perform a third edit with editing software to verify that it is edited to company standards, prepare the document for publication by altering the document’s dimensions, making prescribed changes, then upload the document and the provided cover to distributor websites including Kindle and CreateSpace. Necessary training will be provided. This position is paid a percentage of the company’s quarterly profit; this will be a small sum presently but has an unlimited growth potential based, in small part, on the Formatting Assistant’s productivity.  A successful Formatting Assistant can expect to be offered a junior partnership in the company within 5 years. It is strongly preferred that the Formatting Assistant live in or near the east side of Madison, WI, but this is not mandatory.

Formatting Intern (3 positions): The successful candidates will be college students in programs related to Journalism or Publishing. Formatting Interns will work independently, from home, under the supervision of the Quality Manager as delegated to the Formatting Assistant. The Formatting Intern will download edited manuscripts from a google drive, perform a third edit with editing software to verify that it is edited to company standards, prepare the document for publication by altering the document’s dimensions and making prescribed changes, then upload the document to a google drive for review by the Quality Manager. Once reviewed, the Formatting Intern will upload the manuscript and cover to up to four separate distributor websites.  Necessary training will be provided. This position is unpaid, but the CEO will provide necessary documentation for college credit at the intern’s request. Current and former interns may be offered paid positions as the company expands.

Game Formatting Intern (3 positions): The successful candidates will be college students in programs related to Graphic Arts or Publishing. Proficiency with GIMP and InkScape strongly preferred. Game Formatting Interns will work independently, from home, under the supervision of the Board Game Formatter. The Game Formatting Intern will download edited board game files from a google drive, prepare the game for publication by uploading clear, professional images of the board, pieces, etc. to the distributor website, then notify the Board Game Formatter for approval and publication.  Necessary training will be provided. This position is unpaid, but the CEO will provide necessary documentation for college credit at the intern’s request. Current and former interns may be offered paid positions as the company expands.

Editor/Proofreader (multiple positions): The Editor/Proofreader will work independently, from home, and will receive assignments from the Editing Coordinator. The Editor/Proofreader will remain in contact with the author of the manuscript. Spelling and punctuation errors, excluding those in dialogue, will be corrected in accordance with US English usage and the Chicago Manual of Style. All other errors will be checked with the author before correction in order to maintain the author’s style and intent. Pay is by the size of the project and is spelled out in the contracts.
Projects may include, but are not limited to, books contracted for publication by Caliburn Press, books contracted for publication by other publishing companies, books to be self-published, and internal manuals from other kinds of companies. While some leeway may be granted on deadlines for books contracted to Caliburn, other projects may not ever be turned in late. Strict confidentiality is expected.
Those wishing to be editors will be given a test requiring more than ten answers. Potential editors must get at least half the questions correct.
